🏃‍♀️Always finish Strong 🏁

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

Hi friends,

It's looking like 2020 had a strong finish in major indices despite a turbulent year. Last week of the year yielded the following 5 day returns (and the current year-to-date):

  • Dow Jones 30: 30,606.48 (1.35%, year-to-date: 7.25%)

  • S&P 500: 3,756.07 (1.43%, year-to-date: 16.26%)

  • Nasdaq: 12,888.28 (0.65%, year-to-date: 43.64%)

We mentioned this last week but here's a reminder of the earnings reports being published in the coming week:

  • CAG (7th Jan 2021)

  • LW (7th Jan 2021)

  • MU (7th Jan 2021)

  • STZ (7th Jan 2021)

  • WBA (7th Jan 2021)

Constellation Brands (STZ)

Some of you might have spent the new year with fireworks, a countdown, or a little bit of wine. If so, you might have bought something from Constellation Brands (STZ). Founded in the WW2 era, STZ has been one of the largest beer suppliers for a while now with brands like Corona, Modelo, and Robert Mondavi (just to name a few) under its belt. So let's pop the cork on the company's fundamentals:

Annual Top-Line Revenue:

  • 2016: $6.55B

  • 2017: $7.33B

  • 2018: $7.58B

  • 2019: $8.12B

  • 2020: $8.34B

Historical Stock Returns:

  • 3-month: 18.15%

  • 1-year: 15.91%

  • 5-year: 55.32%

That's not too bad of a report. How much runway does STZ have? Well, tune in Thursday when they announce their EPS. However, if history is an indicator of what's to come, it might be the case that we'll see some upside. Towards the end of 2020, STZ received approval from the FTC to divest a part of its portfolio to E & J Gallo Winery, at over $1.6 billion, freeing up cash flow to hopefully maximize efficiencies within its operations.

Who's in the same space as Constellation?

Some billion-dollar companies in the races with STZ include Pernod Richard, Heineken, and Brown-Forman, Budweiser Brewing Company, and Molson Coors Beverage Company.
